The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released the market share data for June 2022. While the ICE giants are of course leading, electric two-wheeler brands have witnessed a surge in demand too. Here’s a closer look at the top five players in the electric two-wheeler space:
Manufacturer | June 2022 Sales | |
Okinawa Autotech | 6980 | |
Ampere Vehicles | 6540 | |
Hero Electric | 6503 | |
Ola Electric | 5874 | |
Ather Energy | 3808 |
Premium EV brands like Ola Electric and Ather Energy have been bested by the likes of Okinawa, Ampere and Hero Electric by a fair margin. However, this is predictable, considering that the top three players have products that are considerably more affordable than the Ola S1 Pro or the Ather 450X.
Also, while these premium e-scooter brands that cater to the B2C market are limited to just one product, Okinawa, Ampere and Hero Electric have a range of options including B2B and low-speed e-scooters which help them have a broader customer base.

But, it’s not just the product lineup that’s driving the success of these brands. Inflation has been a major factor for people to opt for affordable electric two-wheelers. However, all firms have seen rapid growth in the recent past.
While Okinawa has registered a six-fold year-on-year (YoY) growth, Ather Energy has reported a massive 1093.73 per cent bump in sales. However, Ather’s growth can be accredited to its rapid expansion plan as well.
Interestingly, these EV manufacturers are now neck and neck in competition with the ICE players too. In fact, brands like Piaggio (Vespa and Aprilia) and Classic Legends (Jawa and Yezdi) now fall behind these five EV companies.
